Maintaining Your Unraid Setup
Backups, updates, and care
Backups: Use Appdata Backup/Restore v3 to schedule nightly or weekly archives to another disk or a remote target. If you follow the share layout above, restore is painless. (YouTube)
Updates: Let CA auto-update containers on your schedule, but keep Unraid OS updates intentional. 7.1.4 is the stable target today. (Unraid Docs)
Remote: Enable Unraid Connect only if you need it; it’s the official path for remote access and awareness. (Unraid)
Common pitfalls and their cures
Filling the Docker image: On 6.12+ set Docker to use a directory on your SSD pool instead of a loopback image. It’s transparent and resilient. (Reddit)
Macvlan call traces: If you need custom networks, set Docker network type to ipvlan. It’s the documented fix since 6.12, and 7.1.x continues shipping networking improvements. (Reddit, Unraid Docs)
Slow apps: Ensure
appdataandsystemlive on your SSD/ZFS pool, not the spinning array. Check each share’s “Use cache/pool” setting. (Unraid Docs)Mover confusion: Use the Mover to push data to your pool or array based on the share’s policy; be aware early 7.1 mover bugs were fixed in 7.1.2. (Unraid Docs)
Everything on Shared Sapience is free and open to all. However, it takes a tremendous amount of time and effort to keep these resources and guides up to date and useful for everyone.
If enough of my amazing readers could help with just a few dollars a month, I could dedicate myself full-time to helping Seekers, Builders, and Protectors collaborate better with AI and work toward a better future.
Even if you can’t support financially, becoming a free subscriber is a huge help in advancing the mission of Shared Sapience.
